Covid-19 Policy
Our students are an important part of Avant Garde Theatre of Dance and we cannot wait to all dance together!
As we think ahead to opening our doors later this January, we will also be implementing procedures to create a safe environment for our students, staff, and faculty.
Keep reading to learn more about the new protocols we’ve put in place and other details you need to know as we slowly open the studio.

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state, and local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing, wearing a face mask and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of groups of people.
Avant Garde Theatre of Dance has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (See COVID-19 Studio Policies below); however, Avant Garde Theatre of Dance cannot guarantee that you or your child(ren) will not become infected with COVID-19.

Ennis City’s mask mandate, which is in effect as of July 2, requires anyone over the age of 3 to carry and use a face covering in public spaces, both inside and out. Masks have been mandatory in our studio since opening, even during class.
Here is what you need to know:
- While in the building, students, faculty, and staff are required to wear a mask at all times. This means that you must wear an appropriate mask during your in-studio class or camp.
- For all outdoor classes, masks are required before and after class.
- We are encouraging students to take a break & step outside if they feel the need to take their mask off. We understand that wearing masks while dancing is not for everyone, so we plan to keep a good balance of both in-person and virtual classes.
We are recommending that students wear 1 of the following masks:
- 2-layer fabric face mask
- A disposable paper face mask
- N-95 or K-95 face mask
Please note: A handkerchief/bandana is not an acceptable form of face mask covering.
- Cleaning studios after each class
- Frequent cleaning of all common spaces using CDC approved disinfectant throughout the day
- Daily mopping of studio floors with CDC approved disinfectant
- Adhering to social distancing guidelines
- Wearing face masks
- Using hand sanitizer upon entering the building, along with frequent hand washing
- For studio classes, there will be no activities that require direct or indirect contact including: partnering, tactile cueing, touching the same equipment or travelling across the floor
- Staff is working from home, with the exception of teaching artists and front desk staff
- Staff exhibiting any signs of Covid-19 are asked to stay home until a diagnosis of Covid-19 has be ruled out
- Continuing to research the most current guidelines to ensure our student and staff safety
- Class start and end times will be staggered, to ensure no more than eight students will be entering or exiting the building at all times
- Students are to be dropped off and picked up at the front entrance. There is no parent/caregiver/dancer waiting allowed in the lobby.
- Students should not have shown signs or symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days. Students showing any symptoms of Covid-19 will be asked to go home and may return once a medical professional has ruled out Covid-19.
- Students should not have had close or sustained contact with anyone who is sick within 14 days.
- While in the building, students, faculty, and staff are required to wear a mask at all times.
- Students are asked to limit the items they bring with them to the studio. Therefore, please limit items brought in to a water bottle and purse/dance bag. There will be specific places in the studio to put these items. Please label your child’s water bottle with their name.
- Social distancing will be followed at all times. Students will be distanced 10 feet from one another when in the studio and 6 feet from one another when in the lobby space (ex. waiting in line for the restroom).
- If you, or your child has allergies causing increased sneezing and nasal discharge, we ask that you keep them home as this increases the risk of spreading droplets.
- Students will be asked to remove shoes upon entering the lobby.
- Upon entrance, the student’s temperature will be taken with a no-touch thermometer and will be asked to clean their hands using the hand sanitizer provided, or standard hand washing.
- If you have traveled, please refer to CDC, state, and county recommendations.
Make-up classes: Due to COVID-19 and our limited class capacities, students will only be allowed to make up missed classes with pre-approval. Contact [email protected] to check on availability to make up a class. Make-up classes may be either in-person or virtual.
